Multi-Generational Stays

Staying at Grand Oaks with grandparents and kids

Grand Oaks works well for multigenerational trips, but the specifics matter. Short version: the property is zoned so kids have room to run and grandparents have somewhere quiet to sit, and the animals do most of the entertaining.

What kids actually do here

The animals. Eleven of them live on the property - two horses, two Highland cows, two mini donkeys, a miniature heifer, a goat, and three barn cats. Kids find them within the first hour and are gone for the rest of the trip. There's also a pool with a sun shelf shallow enough for toddlers, a nature playground for kids of all ages coming soon, and 22 acres of open ranch to run.

What grandparents actually do here

Sit on the porch. Watch the animals. Spend time in or by the pool. Swing on the benches around the fire pit. Main Street Fredericksburg is ten minutes away for lunch, shops, and the wineries. The pace is quiet on purpose.

Zoning: So our silo and farmhouse guests have their own spaces

The silo community and the farmhouse sit on separate parts of the property, a good distance from each other. That means kids at the pool aren't audible in the farmhouse and a nap upstairs isn't interrupted by anyone. If you're mixing generations, that separation is usually what makes the trip work.

The Barn

A note: the barn is reserved for farmhouse renters and full-property buyouts. If you book a silo only, you won't have barn access. Book the farmhouse or the full property if you want it.

Stairs

Every silo has its bedrooms upstairs. The first floor has the living space, kitchen, and a walk-in shower bathroom. The soaking tub is upstairs with the beds. If a grandparent can't do stairs, they would need assistance getting to the front door and they could sleep on a Murphy bed or platform sleeper sofa. The 1848 farmhouse has ground-floor bedrooms and is often the better call for the older members of a group. The most common configuration we see: grandparents in the farmhouse, adult kids and grandchildren in one or two silos next door. Email us with who's coming and we'll walk you through what fits.

How to figure out the right combination

Email us with the group - how many adults, how many kids and their ages, whether stairs are a factor. We'll tell you what actually fits before you book.
